Getting to know the attraction

The name "Rudolfinum" has a concert hall, an exhibition and a gallery in the center of Prague. It is located in the center of the town square Jan Palach. The building was built according to the project of architects Josef Zytek and Josef Schulz by order of the Savings Bank of the Czech Republic . At the end of the work, it was transferred to the city's balance as a gift of financiers for the anniversary of the bank to the entire Czech people.

The gallery in Prague is named Rudolfinum in honor of Rudolf, Crown Prince of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He became an honorary participant in the opening of the hall on February 7, 1885. Later, in 1918-1939, in the premises of the concert hall plenary sessions of the Parliament of Czechoslovakia were held.

After a grandiose reconstruction in 1990-1992, the Rudolfinum Hall in Prague became the main concert venue of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert hall seats 1023 spectators, the small hall - 211.

What can I see?

The two-story building of Rudolfinum can not fail to impress. The architectural style of neo-renaissance evokes delight and respect for the skill of the authors of the project. In the interior decoration there are also elements of the classical style. On the outer perimeter the building is decorated with sculptures by composers and illustrations of their works. The symbol of the Savings Bank of the Czech Republic - a golden bee - is depicted on the chest of the classical guards of the building - the sphinxes. Opposite the main entrance there is a monument to Dvorak.

Rudolfinum in Prague became Europe's first cultural center, where various concerts, the Prague Spring Festival, various exhibitions, etc. are held.
