The air base was put into operation on December 7, 1964. She started working as a military facility, gradually she began to accept passenger commercial flights, later - and cargo flights.

The official status of the international airport in Sidoargo was received in late 1990 - after the solemn opening of the passenger terminal for registration of flights between the states. Today the airport carries out air communication with the Netherlands, Malaysia , China, Great Britain, France, Philippines, Australia , South Korea, Japan , Vietnam.

In 2006, a new passenger terminal building was opened; its capacity is 8 million people. In 2014, another passenger terminal was opened, thanks to which the capacity of Sidoradzho Airport increased by 6 million people per year.
