Slips in the Czech Republic - an artificial reservoir, which is important for the country, not only as a water resource, but also as a tourist destination .

Some general information

The length of the reservoir is 43 km, and the depth is about 58 m.

The decision to build a dam near the village of Slapy arose in 1933, but it was realized only in 1955. Construction began in 1949 and lasted for six years.

The dam itself is quite impressive in size - 260 m in length and 65 m in width. In 1956, near it was built a power plant, which to this day is working properly.

For the first time, the dam defended Prague from flooding as far back as 1954, when construction work was not completely completed.

How to get there?

The Slap reservoir is only 40 km south of Prague. You can reach it by car. The journey will take approximately 1.5 hours. Almost all the time of the trip you need to follow the route number 102 until the town of Slapy. You can also get to the lake by bus or train from the Central Prague Railway Station .
