Singing Fountains

In the north of the Czech capital is located the historical exhibition complex Vystavishte, built in 1891. Its main attraction is singing fountains, considered to be one of the largest in the Czech Republic and Europe. Every day colorful musical performances are arranged here, acquainting the audience with the works of world famous composers and achievements of modern engineering.

The history of singing fountains

In 1891, Prague was to host the First Czech Industrial Exhibition. It was to her discovery that the engineer and inventor Frantisek Krzyzek designed and built singing fountains in the capital of the Czech Republic, which became a symbol of the XIX century. For lighting, he used electric floodlights with glasses of different colors. Thanks to the installation of steam high-speed pumps in one minute, this design threw out 250 liters of water.

In 1991, architect Z. Staszek undertook a complete reconstruction and modernization of the structure. Since then, the show of singing fountains in Prague is conducted using a computer that manages lighting equipment and audio equipment.

The construction of singing fountains

To date, this landmark is a unique European heritage. It is a massive structure, installed in a basin measuring 25x45 m. The basis of singing fountains in the capital of the Czech Republic is water rings, on which are installed three thousand sprayers. Water is supplied from 49 pumps. The total length of all pipes of this metal structure is almost 2 km.

An amphitheater is built around the pool. It hosts up to 6,000 spectators who came to see the fascinating show of singing fountains in Prague.
