St. George's, or St. George's Cathedral - a remarkable temple of Stockholm. Its construction was conducted from 1889 to 1890, it was headed by the architect A. G. Forsberg. Initially, the building belonged to the Catholic parish, but was later purchased by the Orthodox faith.

The cathedral is dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr George. Christians honor him for their dedication and courage in defending their faith. The saint was killed by order of the Emperor Diocletian.

Description

St. George's Cathedral is built of red brick, and the elements of its decor are made of gray concrete. To the eastern part of the building is attached an aspidum, and the western part is crowned by a high tower with a dome, finished with special copper sheets. The stylistics of the cathedral is neo-Gothic. Doors and windows have an arched shape. The building of the cathedral is decorated with stained-glass windows and ornaments.

After St. George's Cathedral in Stockholm became an Orthodox diocese, an iconostasis appeared. Church services are held in Greek. They take place on Sundays and religious holidays . You can visit the shrine any day of the week. For the excursion choose the time from 10:00 to 18:00.
