How did the area come about?
The emergence of the Armory Square in Lima is closely connected with the arrival of the Spanish colonists. From it began the transformation of an Indian settlement into a city. This place is a landmark for history, it proclaimed the independence of Peru . This is the oldest and most important building on the Armory Square in Lima. The building of the cathedral was rebuilt after the earthquakes and therefore it mixed Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance.
On the side of the Cathedral there is the Government Palace. This beautiful building, built in the Baroque style, occupies one of the quarters. Nowadays the residence of the president of the country is located in it. Every day at noon there is a change of guard of the presidential guard - this is a spectacular process, which is worth a look.
What to explore in the vicinity?
The Armory Square in Lima is surrounded by many churches, museums, galleries, colleges, beautiful landscape parks. Also in the historic center are many restaurants where you can taste traditional cuisine at affordable prices. Two blocks from here is the Church of the Merciful Virgin, formerly a monastery. The building is built in the rare Mudejar style.
On the other hand, from the weapons area in Lima, you will be greeted by a building resembling a train station in Europe. This is Casa de Aliaga. Before moving from England, this building was an active railway station, and in Lima it houses a museum. Surely you will want to buy souvenirs and Peruvian textiles.
