Museum of gold


The Museum of Gold in Lima is one of the most famous sights of the Peruvian capital. It was founded in 1968 on the basis of collections of gold and weapons of the famous Peruvian statesman, businessman and philanthropist Miguel Mujic Gallo (also there is such a transliteration of his name as Gallo). His collection, he began to replenish in 1935, collecting the exhibits without exaggeration around the world. Today the collection of the museum consists of approximately 25,000 exhibits, of which more than 8,000 are items made of gold, platinum, and silver. Most of them occupy the products of ancient Peruvian craftsmen, found during the excavation of burials.

"Golden Collection

The exposition of this part of the museum is represented by a collection of gold, silver and platinum jewelry of the Incas and ancient pre-Inca cultures of chima, nascai, uri and mochika that existed in the territory of modern Peru : here you can see necklaces, earrings, nose rings, tiaras, crowns embroidered with gold ponchos, and also products from precious stones - pearls, lapis lazurite, emeralds. All decorations amaze with the fineness of their work. Presented in the exhibition and a variety of religious products - ritual swords and daggers, funeral gold masks and gloves, amulets. Gold ancient Peruvians decorated not only themselves, but also their homes - in the museum you will see everyday objects made of this metal, and even gold "wallpaper". Gold was also used for medical purposes: you can see the skull with a gold plate embedded in the bone, which was implanted after a successful trepanation operation.

You can see in the museum the mummy of Ruler Sipan , dried heads and skulls, including a skull with inserted teeth made of rock crystal of lilac color, as well as products made of textiles, ceramics, samples of Inca knot letter writing.

Weapons and armor

In the first hall you will see a variety of knightly armor and weapons of medieval Europe. Next, you will meet with more "young" cold and firearms. Knives, broadswords, swords, sabers (among others there is a saber, once belonged to Alexander II, there are also weapons belonging to other famous historical figures), muskets, dueling pistols. Here weapons are collected from the middle of the 16th century - and to this day. One of the halls is occupied by a collection of armor and weapons of Japanese samurai. It also presents spurs, saddles, stirrups and other equestrian articles. The whole collection of weapons occupies two floors of the museum building.

To the tourist on a note

The museum is located in the Limna area of ​​Monternico, almost next to the US embassy. He works without days off, from 10-30 to 18-00. The cost of an adult ticket is 11 dollars, the children's fee is 4. Please note: photo and video shooting in the museum is prohibited.

In the building there are souvenir shops selling copies of many exhibits; when buying you should also give a certificate that the product is a copy and has no artistic value - so that when you export souvenirs to the customs, there are no problems.
