The castle of Wojew

Belgium is famous for its ancient and medieval architecture. In the province of Namur , near the village of Cell (Celles), is the majestic castle of Wei, which is a masterpiece of military architecture of the XV century.

Description of the castle

The Castle of Weev has the shape of an irregular pentagon, its corners are decorated with 6 pointed round turrets. Five of them date back to the 13th century, and the last sixth - the smallest one, which is located to the right of the main entrance to the citadel, was erected much later. The northern part of the facade is decorated with a dome with a large clock.

The interior of the fortress, by its originality, is not inferior to the facade. There is a unique collection of furniture that dates from the Middle Ages until the middle of the 18th century. In the rooms of the castle of Vev there are a lot of various sculptures and knights' armor, on the walls there are family coat-of-arms, portraits of family members and picturesque paintings, as well as household items. Practically in each hall an ancient fireplace is built in, and on the shelves sets of dishes are collected.

Here they honor the ancestral traditions, visitors can not but be surprised by the fact that the Castle of the Veins since the 12th century did not change its owners. Today the estate is owned by the Liedekerke-Beaufort family (Liedekerke-Beaufort). They are descendants of the ancient genus Beaufort. By the way, this fortress is a local pride, because in its entire history of existence, it was taken by storm only once.
