Vigeland Sculpture Park

Art in some way helps a person to know the difference between "Being" and "Is". After all, true being does not undergo destruction. There is a table that can be destroyed, but there is an idea of a table that can not be destroyed. Through time and space, the creator tries to say something to the beholder through his creation. So Gustav Vigeland, a Norwegian sculptor, left behind a huge legacy, each part of which is satiated with meaning and carries a reflection of the author's thoughts.

The Legacy of the Sculptor

Among the attractions of Oslo, which must be visited , it is worth noting the Gustav Vigeland Sculpture Park. He is a creative heritage, a huge child, over which the sculptor worked more than 40 years. The area of the park is 30 hectares, and 227 human statues are located in its space. The main materials were bronze, granite and wrought iron.

Entrance to the park area is protected by a huge gate, which also created Gustav Vigeland. It is worth noting that the park itself is designed exclusively by him - right up to the detailed location of a sculpture.

Art critics define the main theme of the sculptor's legacy as "all kinds of human conditions". In general, even at the entrance any questions regarding its correctness or accuracy disappear. Indeed, indeed, the statues of Vigeland are dancing, playing, embracing, sad, struggling, holding hands. Sometimes sculptures depict some abstract feelings, and sometimes their meaning is clear at first sight.

Park structure

In the park area there are several locations: a fountain, a bridge, a children's playground, a monolith plateau and a wheel of life. All of them are harmoniously connected to each other, like links of one chain.

The highest point of the park is a monolith. This is a huge sculpture of 150 m in height, which is as if molded from human bodies. The author designed this work for more than a year, and it took 14 years to create it. At the same time, two sculptors-carvers were working on creating the monolith, in addition to Vigeland. Sculpture symbolizes the cycle of life and the desire of man to be closer to God. Surrounds its plateau, which also houses sculptural groups on various topics, similar to the main one.

The bridge in the park of Vigeland stretched for 100 m in length. Here and there come across the figures of children and adults who are involved in any way with each other. Just below the bridge is a children's playground in the form of a circle. Here, too, bronze sculptures of children are placed, including an embryo.

One of the oldest buildings in the park, but not inferior to beauty, is a fountain. It is surrounded by bronze trees and a number of figures that shade the main essence of the location - the beginning of a new life after death.

For those who were interested in Gustav Vigeland's personality no less than his creations, a museum devoted to the life and work of the sculptor is located five minutes walk from the park.
