Zhedrebaion

Montenegro is a real pearl of the Mediterranean. This country, stretched in the southern part of the Adriatic, is unique in many respects. In no other place in the world you will find so many natural resources, clean lakes, snow-white beaches , fast rivers and magnificent mountains , as here. Among the main attractions of this amazing land is the famous monastery of Zhedrebaion, which in its beauty is not inferior even to the nearby Ostroh temple .

What is interesting Zhrebaonik?

The monastery was founded in 1818 on the site of an old destroyed church in the village of Sekulichi, not far from Danilovgrad and only 17 km from Ostroh. The origin of its name is also interesting: from the Old Slavonic language the word "lot" is translated as "church estate". Unlike its world-famous neighbor, this place was hidden from the eyes of curious travelers for many years and was rarely included in the program of tourist routes .

Currently in the territory of the women's Orthodox monastery are:

  1. Church of St. Michael the Archangel. The main temple, in which more than 150 years the relics of Saint Arseny, Seraphim of Sarov, Alexander Nevsky, Matrona and Fevronia and many others have been preserved. The appearance of the building is typical for the Serbian churches: the structure has even walls and a semicircular altar ledge.
  2. The hospice house of 1819, which is a beautiful 2-storey building made in a strict classical style. The lower floor is reserved for the night for pilgrims, on the second floor there are rooms of the nuns themselves.
  3. Ancient cemetery.
  4. Outbuildings and workshops.
  5. A museum open to tourists all year round. In it everyone who wants to get acquainted with the rich history of the sanctuary.

In the photo the monastery of Zhedrebaionik in Montenegro looks rather modest and almost unremarkable: its true beauty can be understood only by personally visiting here. Wonderful fresh air, neatly trimmed green lawns on which adorable field flowers grow, small gardens where nuns grow berries, fruits and vegetables - all this you will see on the territory of one of the main temples of the country.

How to get there?

Zhedrebaik is located in the vicinity of Danilovgrad , which can be reached by a new road that connects the city itself and Ostrog monastery. After passing the village of Goritsa, turn right and drive another 200 m. If you went on a trip not by private car but by public transport, ask the driver to stop at the village of Sekulichi, from which 10 minutes. go to the monastery.
