Types of amenorrhea
In medicine, it is customary to isolate true and false amenorrhea. At the first type of disorders, in the body of the woman there are absolutely no cyclic changes, both in the ovaries and in the endometrium of the uterus. In this case, the hormonal function of the ovaries is sharply reduced, which is why there is a lack of sex hormones, which are necessary for cyclic changes.
Under false amenorrhea, it is accepted to understand the absence of periodic discharge of blood, which normally accompanies the monthly. In this case, cyclic changes in the body are present.
Why are there no long periods?
The first thought that visits girls with the disappearance of menstruation is the occurrence of pregnancy. But how to be, if a woman is 100% sure that the absence of menstruation in her case is not a sign of pregnancy.
The reasons why there are no monthly ones for 3 months may be a lot. In this case, they are different for primary and secondary amenorrhea. The causes of the primary are:
- violation of the patency of the entrance to the vagina;
- violation of cervical canal passableness;
- defeat of gonads ( Turner syndrome );
- extragonadal pathology (delay in menarche , hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, congenital adrenal hyperplasia).
The first 3 reasons are typical for a virgin girl, when due to a violation of the patency, there are no monthly ones for 3 months or more. In this case, everything is solved by a surgical procedure. But even after that, for many girls the duration of absence of menstruation can reach 12 months. It is observed, mainly, during the first 2 years from the moment of menarche.
What are the risk factors for developing amenorrhea?
It is accepted to allocate, so-called, risk factors, often also being the reasons why a woman does not have a monthly 3 months. These include:
- constant physical activity;
- malnutrition;
- psycho-emotional stress;
Thus, if a girl does not have a period for a long time, she should not wait 3 months until they start. Their disappearance is an occasion to call a doctor and establish the reason why they are absent.
