Recognition of Anne Hathaway caused a mixed reaction among the actors. The screen version of Victor Hugo's novel Les Miserables was highly praised by many film critics, members of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts nominated the film in eight categories. For Anne Hathaway this is the only Oscar statuette for Best Supporting Actress. The actress played the tragic image of Fantina, a woman with a hard fate and sacrificing her body for the sake of her daughter.
