Butterflies are truly magical creatures that have been fascinated by their beauty humanity for many centuries. And for a quarter of a century the Australian butterfly reserve has been entertaining tourists with its bright and colorful inhabitants.

Quite frankly, to call this place a park is slightly presumptuous. The definition of "aviary" would be more suitable. Its main function is to recreate the natural habitat of insects. In total there are about 1500 butterflies among which such exotic species as Ulysses, Centosia Bibles, Cairns Birdwing. Here also lives the largest representative of the Lepidoptera - the Herculean Moth. By the way, it is found only in the expanses of North Queensland, so it is unlikely to be able to see it anywhere else.

In the Australian butterfly reserve every 15 minutes, half an hour tours for tourists. It includes a walk around the aviary, an examination of the winged inhabitants, an introduction to the natural stages of life of colorful insects. Ends with a guided tour in the Museum of Butterflies, where they are dried and neatly placed under the glass in the windows. Representatives of various species from different parts of the world are gathered here. For large tourist groups, the excursion should be booked in advance. The work time is limited from 10.00 to 16.00, the first excursion starts at 10.15, the last - at 15.15.

How to get there?

The village of Kuranda is located an hour's drive from the city of Cairns . You can get here by bus , or by private car. In the latter case, you need to follow the National Route 1 route, the road will take a little over half an hour.
