Domain Park


Park "Domain" - one of the favorite places of recreation for the inhabitants of Sydney . It is on the east coast of Sydney Harbor. Here you will find a lot of entertainment, available to both Sydney residents and visitors to the city.

What is interesting about the park "Domain"?

Initially, the park was a small area reserved by Governor Arthur Philippe, who arrived in Sydney Harbor. Here was a small farm with an open area, which was later surrounded by a moat and a stone wall. To visit the park was opened in the 1830s. Various people's meetings were held there, but in the main the park was used for resting citizens.

Today on the lawns of the park "Domain" sporting events, concerts, festivals, public meetings are held. Fans of jogging, cricket, soccer and just relaxing in the fresh air come here to enjoy fresh air and beautiful landscapes, often picnics. The annual January Sydney Arts Festival also partially takes place in the park "Domain".

One of the few attractions in the park is the Mississa McVire Armchair. It is in fact a huge armchair carved from stone and was intended in due time for the wife of the governor named Lahlan Makvayr. Sitting in the chair, you can see not only the expanses of the park, but also its surroundings and even the Sydney Harbor with ships leaving it. Also in the park "Domain" there is a memorial plaque informing curious tourists that here Elizabeth II, Queen of Great Britain, first entered the Australian land.

How to get to the park "Domain"?

The park is located in the central business district, on its eastern side. It adjoins the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Art Gallery of New South Wales . You can get here from the Queen Victoria market by bus No. 441, or by metro to St. James or Martin Place.

The entrance to the park is free, and its visit is possible at any time of the day.
