Cushing's Syndrome

For the first time this hormonal disorder was described in detail in 1912 by American physician Harvey Cushing, who substantiated hypercorticism (increased synthesis of cortisol and other hormones of the adrenal cortex) by disrupting the pituitary gland. In his honor, Cushing's syndrome got its name. Often the disease is indicated as a syndrome of Itenko-Cushing, referring to the Odessa neurologist Nikolai Itenko, who in 1924 linked the syndrome with a tumor of the adrenal glands. Both scientists are right, therefore for today Cushing's syndrome is called hyperkistikizm of any origin.

Causes of Cushing's Syndrome

The increased production of adrenal hormones is most often stimulated by an increase in the level of the androgen-corticotropic hormone of the pituitary gland in connection with a tumor in this part of the brain. More rarely the cause is a similar tumor in the adrenal gland, ovary, testicles and even bronchi. This is a new tumor called ectopic corticotropinoma. During its growth, this tumor releases a huge amount of glucocorticoids into the bloodstream, as a result, the pituitary gland begins to send a signal to the adrenal glands about the increased need for cortisol production and the hormonal imbalance in the body becomes very strong.

Happens and such, that the reason of illness becomes reception of hormonal preparations, this so-called medicamental syndrome of Itenko-Cushing.

The main signs of Cushing's syndrome

Cortisol in excess affects the protein-carbohydrate-fat balance, resulting in increased blood sugar. All metabolic processes in the body are violated. The signs of Cushing's syndrome are:

Since Cushing's syndrome is more common in women than in men, you should be alerted by the appearance of hair on the chin and over the lip, in the halos of the nipples.

Treatment of Cushing's syndrome

In order to defeat the disease, you need to accurately determine the cause of its occurrence. There are several possible options: hormonal therapy, radiation and chemotherapy, as well as surgical intervention. The choice in this case depends solely on the individual characteristics of the patient's body.

Whatever type of therapy is used, its main goal is to normalize the level of cortisol and other hormones. A minor aspect is the regulation of metabolism and blood pressure. In the case of the development of heart failure, this violation is also paid close attention.

Treatment of Cushing's syndrome with folk remedies

Officially, there is no evidence that Cushing's syndrome can be controlled with phytotherapy, but many healers also offer this option. The most popular in this area are such plants:

Spirituous and water infusion, as well as a decoction of these herbs with accurate use normalize the hormonal background. But it's not worth it forget that official studies have not been conducted, and therefore the result may be completely unpredictable.

To ease the state of Cushing's syndrome, such measures will help:

  1. Good and long rest.
  2. Proper nutrition.
  3. Walks in the open air.
  4. Moderate (high) level of physical activity.
  5. Rejection of bad habits.
  6. Compliance with the drinking regime.
