Drukgyal Dzong

In translation, the Drukgyal-dzong is designated as the "fortress of victory". Indeed, this temple was erected in honor of the decisive battle between Bhutanese and Tibetans, as a result of which the latter were forced to retreat completely.

The fortress was built in 1646, and the founder of the country Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal started the construction. Unfortunately, until our days only ruins have been preserved. However, they can not be called abandoned - today there are five monks regularly living here, whose main task is to prevent even greater destruction of the church.

Drukgyal-dzong is located in a very picturesque place, in the vicinity of the town of Paro . Probably, tourists are brought here, so as not to permeate with the historical importance of the ruins, but enjoy the panorama of the Himalayan mountains. This temple is the starting point of the Trail of Jomolhari - the official route through the main inaccessible places of Bhutan, which continues towards the Great Himalayan Range. First you need to fly to the international airport of Paro . Drukgyal-dzong is the end point of the Bhutanese highway. However, according to the rules of Bhutan, you can travel only by bus of your tour operator.
