Exercises after mastectomy with lymphostasis

Such a violation, as lymphostasis, is characterized by a violation of the outflow of the lymphatic fluid, which is almost always observed as a result of mastectomy, - surgery to remove the breast. The therapeutic process with this disease is aimed at reducing swelling and restoring circulatory processes in the lymphatic system. At the same time, it is based on physical exercises and massage.

What exercises can get rid of lymphostasis?

It is worth noting that the selection of physical activity is performed only a week after the surgical intervention. The doctor always takes into account the severity of the symptoms, the general state of the woman and the stage of the disorder.

So, with lymphostasis after mastectomy, women are recommended the following exercises:

  1. The hand is placed on the knees, palms down, without bending at the elbow joint. Gradually, slowly turn the wrists from the outside to the inside. The fingers should be relaxed.
  2. The hand is placed behind the back, bending at the elbow joint. Brushes are closed in the lock and pressed to the back. Slowly pull up the palms to the shoulder blades.
  3. Raise the hand, from which the mammary gland is removed, up, then slowly lower, holding for a few seconds in the position in front of you.

The duration and frequency of such exercises in the treatment of lymphostasis of the hand is indicated by the physician. The execution of one complex should not take more than 10 minutes.

How to properly massage with this violation?

The complex of exercises, appointed with lymphostasis, developed after mastectomy, is almost always supported by a massage.

So, the woman, on whose side the operation was performed, the woman raises her head up and rests against a flat surface. A healthy hand carries light, stroking movements, directed from the wrist to the elbow, and from the elbow to the shoulder.

When performing massaging movements, the hand is enveloped from all sides. First, work the sides, then the inner and outer. The duration of the procedure is no more than 5 minutes, and is repeated after 2-3 hours (depending on the stage of the lesion).
