Stadium construction
Initially, the great stadium was called Arteveldestadion, in honor of the ruler of Ghent Jacob van Antervelde. Over time, it was sold to the company Ghelamko Group, and therefore was named Gelamko Arena. The stadium opened in July 2013. It was a grand show, which was accompanied by bright fireworks and a friendly match of the local team.
The cost of building the stadium cost the Ghelamko Group 80 million euros. The main idea of Gelamko Arena was to create a new attraction, which will not bring harm to the environment, so the design received the title of the first and only ecological football field in Belgium . The stadium itself is made inside of wooden panels, stone and other eco-materials.
In Gelamko Arena can fit 20 thousand football fans. Of this large number of seats allocated 2 thousand for business class, 1200 places for people with disabilities. On the territory of the stadium there are shops with souvenirs and a cafeteria. The design of the stand has the opportunity to expand the seats to 40,000 due to special exit panels, but since the opening it has not been used.

How to get there?
Gelamko Arena is located 5 km from the central square of Ghent and 3.5 km from the railway station. You can reach it either by taxi or by public transport (buses Nos. 65, 67). In the days of football matches to the stadium from the station runs a special bus, which meets guests from abroad. To get there, you will need to purchase a ticket (electronic) in advance on the official website and indicate that this service will be required.
