Cerucal is a drug that is often recommended for the relief of vomiting of various origins. It is available in the form of oral tablets, as well as in the form of a solution for injections in ampoules. Consider how this medication works, and in what cases it is prescribed.
Composition and pharmacological action of Cerucala
The active substance in the preparation is metoclopramide. The tableted form of Cerucal contains such auxiliary substances: starch, gelatin, lactose, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate. In solution for injection as additional components contain:
- sodium sulfite;
- disodium edetate;
- sodium chloride;
- distilled water.
Metoclopramide, entering the body, enters the systemic bloodstream and brain tissue, acts on specific receptors. As a result, the following effect is observed:
- blocking the emetic center in the brain (which leads to the elimination of vomiting and hiccups, for which the vomiting center also is responsible);
- reduction of motor and contractile activity of the esophagus (this helps increase its lumen);
- an increase in the tone of the lower sphincter of the esophagus (which reduces gastroesophageal refluxes);
- acceleration of the progress of the food lump from the stomach into the intestines, suppressing a sense of heaviness and not provoking diarrhea;
- activation of intestinal peristalsis;
- normalization of the process of bile flow, affecting the contractility of the gallbladder and reducing spasm of the sphincter of Oddi;
- stimulation of prolactin production.
In this case, the medicine does not change the degree of production of gastric juice, pancreatic and bile enzymes. There is also evidence that the agent helps to heal stomach and duodenal ulcers.
