How to make a cap from a newspaper?

The variety of modern headwear is very large. But sometimes, in special situations, something more unusual than a banal cloth cap or hat is required. An interesting option may be a pilot's card from the newspaper. It will fit as a headdress for both masquerade and repair. You can make such a pilot's pouch, even for protection from hot sunlight, if you forget home to Panama.

In this article, we'll talk with you about how to fold this cap from the newspaper with your own hands.

  1. First, determine who is intended for the pilot, because this directly depends on the size of the newspaper. For example, the minimum format for A4 is suitable for a child (you can trim the newspaper neatly or you can choose the periodical of the right format in advance). But to make a cap from a newspaper for an adult, you need, as a rule, a full turn of the tabloid A3.
  2. First fold the newspaper sheet in half from top to bottom. You will get a long rectangle (keep in mind that the shape of your sheet of paper depends on the kind that the cap will have as a result of your labors).
  3. Now bend one of the corners, as shown in the picture. At the same time, check that there is a sufficiently wide newspaper strip below. And the distance from the upper corner of the fold to the middle of the newspaper sheet, multiplied by two, will equal the length of the top of the cap.
  4. Fold the opposite corner symmetrically to the first. In order for the folds to be the same and maximally even, you can use the ruler. With its help, you can also iron the folds so that in the future the cap is well held in shape.
  5. The strip, which remained below, is easily split into two parts, since it is made from different sides of the newspaper. Raise one side up and smooth it well. Thus, the fields of the future cap-cap are formed.
  6. For the same sample, bend the fields on the other side of the craft. Smooth out all the lines of the folds and evaluate how much the height of the cap (this vertical fold in the middle) corresponds to the desired depth of the hat.
  7. Now unfold the handcraft, disassembling the lower edges of the future cap.
  8. The tips of the fields can be left as is, but you can bend it inwards. Make them to your taste and try on the cap of the newspaper - it's ready!
  9. When manufacturing a cap, you can rely on the diagram below. It gradually and graphically shows how to roll a cap from a rectangular sheet of paper. The corners of the cap are folded inwards - the headpiece will be more neat and compact, although this is not a significant point.
  10. In addition to the usual cap, which is the simplest version of such articles from the newspaper, you can make other types of headgear. In particular, it is a cap with a visor or a more original hat.

Origami technique involves working not only with newsprint, but with any other. Therefore, for a special case you can use ordinary one-sided colored paper, denser office paper, patterned scrapbooking paper or origami materials, which are sold in specialized shops for creative work. Keep in mind that too thick paper involves difficulties with bending, and too thin can tear. Choose the golden mean, and then your homemade cap from the newspaper or any other material will be both beautiful and durable!
