Despite the fact that the era of the Middle Ages has long been a history, the desire to be a knight of the modern representatives of the stronger sex is still great. Of course, what boy does not want to become a skilful warrior who can protect his "kingdom" from huge dragons, insidious conquerors and other misfortunes? School plays and matinees in kindergarten are a suitable occasion for dressing their son in a children's costume of a medieval knight sewn by his own hands. Special skills are not required for this. It is enough to arm yourself with the materials and desire necessary for the needlework!
We will need:
- a piece of velvet or velor;
- lining fabric;
- wide braid;
- satin of golden color;
- cardboard;
- pattern with a dragon;
- glue;
- scissors;
- colored paper.
- To create a pattern of a knight's costume, you will need raglan, which is now fully suited to your child's size. Attach it to a cut of velvet, folded in half. To avoid slipping, you can use pins. Carefully circle the raglan with chalk, leaving one or two centimeters on the edges at the edges. Cut out the tunic (sleeves are not needed!). In the expanded form it will be a rectangle with a cut in the middle (neckline). The lower edges of the tunic can be cut in the form of large denticles. If the fabric you choose is showered on slices, then this should not be done. To make the knight's carnival costume more dense, sew a backing fabric cut to the back of the tunic with a similar pattern.
- To decorate the knight costume, in which the child will be flaunting the New Year, cut out a cross from the atlas - one of the symbols of chivalry, and sew it in the center of the front of the tunic. On the sides, you can make an ornament from the braid. The same braid will serve as a belt. The edges of the tunic and its neck are treated with a hidden seam. To the floor of the tunic not scattered, you can from the wrong side sew garters on the sides.
- Now about how to make a shield for a knight costume that will complement the image. To do this, you need a sheet of cardboard, from which you need to cut a circle. You can use the top of the package from the cake. If the cardboard is easily deformed, glue several circles of the same diameter. Wrap the base of the shield with foil or metallized paper. Then from the colored paper cut out the details of the coat of arms and paste them on the shield. Symbolism can be very diverse! By the way, sewing a knight's costume is an excellent occasion to create your own family coat of arms.
- Circle the pattern with the dragon image with a black marker so that the contours are more pronounced. Then paint the dragon in the color you like and cut out the image along the outline.
- Glue the resulting part to the center of the shield. If desired, you can decorate the shield with additional chivalric symbolism. On the reverse side, attach the elastic band so that the child is comfortable to hold the shield. With the same purpose, the accessory can be equipped with a strap.
- It remains to buy a children's helmet with visor and a knight's sword - and a carnival outfit for the matinee is ready! If the finished helmet was not found, you can replace it with an ordinary hat, lining it with vertical strips of fabric and decorating with a decorative feather on top.

As you can see, sewing by yourself the costume of a medieval knight is not an easy task. In such an original carnival attire, your child will feel like a real warrior, to whom everything is on the shoulder. And do not forget to make some pictures for memory!
