Kosmach

An important Montenegrin landmark is the ancient fortress Kosmach. And let the tourists is not the most popular object, it's still worth a visit here.

general information

The fort was built in the XIX century near Budva . He was part of the system of Austro-Hungarian border fortresses and played an important role in the defense of this area. The Kosmach Fortress is located on an elevation, from which the adjacent territories can be clearly seen.

The entire structure covers an area of 1064 sq. Km. m. and consists of a high tower and two wings. The main material used in the construction of the fort is limestone. The building consists of two floors, a basement and a courtyard. Earlier, outside the fortress Kosmach in Montenegro, there were barracks, but to this day they have not lived.

The fortress is now

Currently, the defensive fort has a very dire look. The walls and roof are destroyed by shells, time and vandals. The government has repeatedly attempted to begin reconstruction work in view of the importance of the facility, but so far due to inadequate funding, they have not been successful.

If you still decided to inspect the fortress from the inside (this is allowed), then we recommend doing this with great care, because The walls and ceiling of the building are in a dilapidated state and at any time, caving in is possible.

How to get there?

From Budva, follow the road to the village of Braichi at coordinates 42.301292, 18.900239 to the signpost. The car can be left just behind the sign and walk on foot, or drive a little further, but the road here is not of the best quality.
