Madiadi National Park

The National Park of Madidi is especially designed for those who want to plunge into the beauty reminiscent of Amazonian nature: the rainforest, huge open savannahs, meandering tropical rivers, a variety of birds and all kinds of mammals. Moreover, many people say that here you can meet the indigenous peoples of the tropical forests.

Madidi Park in Bolivia

This park was founded in Bolivia 11 years ago. Today it is one of the largest national parks in the world. Its area is about 5 million hectares. It's hard to believe, but the height of the Madidi Park ranges from 190 to 6000 m above sea level. And the area encompasses not only the fabulous rainforest, but also the mountains that fascinate with its beauty. In the local forests you can see puma, jaguar, monkeys, otters, wolves, bears and many other fauna.

On the territory of this facility there are 160 species of mammals, 75 species of reptiles, more than 2000 species of birds, several thousand rare plants. The National Geographic magazine recognized Madhidi as the most biologically diverse on the planet - that's why you want to come here.

Also on the territory of the reserve, in the Andean Highlands region, there is an indigenous population of the area - a tribe speaking Quechua.

Near the park is located the town of Rurrenabaque , from where the tours begin each day. Prices for them vary from $ 50 to $ 400 (all depends on the tour operator). If you plan a trip to Madidi, it is better if it falls on a dry season, from April to June.

Dangers of the Madiadi National Park

Beauty beauty, but, as in everything, there is a reverse side of the coin. This region, located between the Andes and the Tuichi River, does not always welcome its guests. The danger is in the bites of insects, which can provoke a severe allergic attack. In addition, larvae of gadflies and flies can enter the human body with drinking water or food. But do not worry: in the park there are several safe areas, which tourists leave the locals do not recommend.

How to get to Madidi?

As mentioned earlier, you can get to the national park from Rurrenabaque on a tourist bus, and this is perhaps the best option. If you are in Sucre , keep in mind: from there you need to drive about 10 hours to the north-west along the A3 highway.
