Olympic Museum (Sarajevo)

There are many museums in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina . Many of them are located in old buildings. From this side, the Olympic Museum breaks out of the rules. It was opened in the year 84 of the XX century, and the place of its permanent location was chosen as a mansion not so old - it was built only at the beginning of the last century.

History of the building

The building itself was never intended to house a museum in it. The building was erected for Nikola Mandić, a well-known Bosnian lawyer. It periodically housed:

The museum was opened in order to capture in the memory of generations a historic event for such a small country - the 1984 Olympics.

What to see?

The exposition of the Museum of the Olympic Games is static and not updated. For travelers there is not much that can be of interest, but to refresh the memory of the Olympics, it is worth to go. And independently, without an excursion, as all the exhibits are eloquent and quite understandable without an interpreter.

1992 was a critical year for the Olympic Museum. The building was shot at, seriously damaging it. The exhibits were immediately taken out and hidden in a safe place. Restoration was carried out only in 2004 and was timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Olympiad. Then the exposition returned to its place. The opening ceremony was attended by the president of the International Olympic Committee - J. Rogge.

How to get there?

Sarajevo is a small city, the distances are small. Therefore, if the traveler has come here for a long time - to rest or for new impressions, it is better to take a walk to the museum. If you want comfort or time is running out, the taxi will be the best. Public transport in Sarajevo is also there, so if you want you can get to the place and on it. The most correct solution will be a rented car. It will save time and give more freedom, and it will be possible to get to the museum as quickly as possible.
