The transport museum in Lucerne is the most popular of the museums in Switzerland and the most interesting and rich of all similar museums in Europe: its exposition dedicated to the history of transport development has more than 3 thousand objects, and the area is 20 thousand m 2 . The Swiss Transport Museum began its work in 1959.

The facade of the museum is very original: it can be seen part of the shield for tunneling, wheel disks from cars, propellers, steering wheels and other round parts of various vehicles.

Exposition of the museum

The museum exhibits exhibits since ancient times - for example, stretchers, on which slaves were worn on the shoulders of their "patron", the samples of the first "public transport" - stagecoaches and horses, as well as "individual vehicles" - carriages, phaetons, and others , as well as "official transport" - for example, postal sleds.

With the advent of steam engines, the world has changed. You can see in the museum the first steam engines, including in the section, as well as the transport that they set in motion. A large exposition is devoted to railway transport, including ... individual. Do not be surprised, it turns out, it was in history and such. You can see how the first locomotives looked, the wagons-depending on the class, which apparatuses were used to clean the rails from snow, and try themselves as a driver on a railroad train simulator.

The hall dedicated to cars is smaller than the railway - but no less interesting. You will see cars of different years and brands, including old enough electric cars, you will learn how the hybrid car is arranged. In the hall dedicated to water transport, you will see models of various boats and ships and small boats.

In the aviation hall you can see the history of aircraft construction, starting with the drawings of the great Leonardo and the first airplanes - and up-to-date airliners, helicopters and small private planes. Especially popular are interactive exhibits - simulators of aircraft and helicopter. Also you will see how in modern passenger aircraft the luggage is stored, and how the interiors of the cabin of aircraft for the entire time of their existence evolved. The pavilion has several levels, and aircraft can be viewed from different angles, and even from above. By the way, in front of the museum on the site you can also see samples of aircraft.

There is also an aerospace section in which a separate room is allocated for exhibits telling about Soviet cosmonautics. Here you can find out what the inside looks like from the ISS, admire modern spacesuits, see the models of space ships.

Other attractions in the museum building

In addition to the museum itself, in the same building there is a planetarium with a dome diameter of 18 m and the biggest in Switzerland device of the starry sky and the IMAX cinema, which shows art and popular science films. In addition, here you can see an aerial photo of the country on a scale of 1:20 000 and even "walk" along it - the area of ​​the "Swiss arena" is 200 m 2 . Here is also Hans-Erni-House - a sculptural park where visitors can get acquainted with more than three hundred works of the famous Swiss sculptor and painter Hans Ernie.

In addition, the museum offers everyone a real chocolate adventure! You can learn everything about chocolate - its history, the nuances of production, from the process of growing cocoa beans, as well as the features of its sale and transportation. The tour is conducted in German, English, Italian, Spanish, French and Chinese, it is recommended for children over 6 years old.
