Three Towers


San Marino is located on the mountain slopes of Monte Titano . This mountain is famous for its three peaks, the highest of which reaches 750 m above sea level. Tower of Guaita

The oldest and most famous is the tower of Guaita , which was built in the XI century and was used as a prison. The Tower of Chest

The second tower - Chesta (Fratta) - is on the highest mountain peak. She is younger than Guaita for a century and has also undergone a large number of reconstructions. The fortress tower of Chest was used as a defensive structure of strategic importance, it housed one of the military garrisons, and several prison cells were created.

Today on the territory of Chest there is the Weapons Museum , which has a rich collection of cold and firearms, various armor. About 700 samples are stored here. Another compulsory point for fulfillment in this fortress is visiting the observation platforms in the watchtowers to contemplate the opening panoramas of incredible beauty.

Montale Tower

From the tower of Chest, you can see the lonely, small but beautiful Montale tower. It was built to further protect Chests in the XIV century. Inside the tower is empty, in it was a prison eight-meter deep. The entrance door is high above the ground, respectively - the entrance to it for tourists is closed, unlike the other two towers.
