Arken

The Arken Museum is an unusual young museum of modernism in Isho, not far from Copenhagen . The architect of the building was the famous Seren Lund, he designed a ship that threw a wave on the shore. On March 15, 2016, the museum celebrated its 20th anniversary. The building of the museum fits perfectly into the surrounding nature with its lakes, bays and reliefs.

About the building

The nose of the ship is the entrance to the museum. In the foyer there is a huge block of Norwegian granite, usually, tourists gather near it for the beginning of excursions. Almost all the details of this architectural structure are pushing the thought of the sea. The windows are made in the form of portholes, on the walls there are a large number of metal rivets that allegedly hold sheets of metal, a cafe in the form of a dinghy hanging in the air, and the plan of the museum complex was made in the form of a compass.

The interior decoration is made to hook the viewer, so there are bare concrete straight walls and bright red walls with transitions, depressions and bevelled corners. Curved walls, staggered levels, light effects, bright colors stimulate the senses and are felt by the whole body. During its existence in the museum there were three reconstructions, the latter being made for the twentieth anniversary of the museum and is the creation of an island of arts around the museum building. Now the museum is an island with a ship, which can only be accessed by a bridge. The concept of the abandoned ship was chosen for the museum of modern art not by chance, because it shows the work of creative people, who are sometimes considered detached from reality and their work is not always understood.

What to see?

Equestrian statue of Emrin and Dragset, which stands at the entrance to one of the most interesting museums in the capital of Denmark , pays tribute to the game, creativity and fantasy that win power. Historically, equestrian statues depict the power of kings, dukes, military leaders, and the boy on a rocking horse symbolizes our time, where the personality and its self-realization are considered to be the main thing. The second interesting object is the stadium-platform in the grass along the road near the museum. It seems that this is an alien object, but in fact it is a perfect platform designed to distract you from everyday bustle and to look at the beauty of the world around you from the height of this platform.

The sarcophagi from the sculptor and photographer Peter Bonnen are impressive because, according to the author, they do not have a history, there is no religious connection, there is no connection between the world of the living and the dead, it's just an object of modern art that simply needs to be admired. The futuristic dome-shaped sculpture of Olafur Eliasson certainly will please children, they like to grow into its "molecules", for this it was created. Nine works by Anselm Reile who are part of the permanent exhibition, dazzlingly beautiful and large-format paintings were donated by the artist specially for the museum to "carry luxury from simple materials to the masses."

In a separate room there are twelve heads of the zodiac Ai Wavei, about a meter in height, gilded bronze animal heads, which the sculptor recreated as a message to the world about freedoms and bans, about the Chinese conceit of his uniqueness. In general, in Arken much attention is paid to the work of Danish and Scandinavian artists, who have a separate exhibition hall. The museum exhibited more than 400 works of art, made mostly after 1990. Also visitors can see the works of such modern artists as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall and many others.
