Wacon Park

Madagascar is a real kingdom of lemurs, chameleons and all kinds of reptiles. There are many national parks on the island, where day and night excursions are organized for tourists. One of the smallest parks in Madagascar is Wacon.

general information

The Wakon National Park is the territory of a private reserve that preserves the island's rarest ecosystem - dry deciduous forest. First of all, Wakona Park is famous for the largest lemur population Indri in the world (this is the largest species of lemurs) that lives in these forests.

Wacon Park is located in the central part of the island in the forest of Perine, is part of the Andasibe National Park . It is 150 km east of the capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo . The nearest town is located about 35 km to the north-east - this is a small town of Distrih de Moramanga.

What is interesting about the Wacon park?

In addition to the variety of lemurs, there are many interesting reptiles and 92 species of birds on the territory of the reserve, most of which are endemic. Due to the small size of the Wacon Park, tourists stop here for a day or two in the bungalow Vakona Forest Lodge and continue their excursions to the parks of Madagascar.

On the territory of Vakona is the so-called "island of lemurs" - a small area surrounded by a moat, so that lemurs could not leave it. Here are placed rare specimens of lemurs, and also found wounded animals, in order to be able to look after them and watch them. There are only four islands, but only one of them is allowed to be disembarked to tourists.

Bay for crocodiles looks like a "crocodile farm", where you can be present when feeding these formidable predators. The bay was created artificially, since crocodiles do not inhabit this part of the island. In the park, there are about 40 of them.

How to get to the park?

The most convenient option is a group excursion or a transfer ordered in the lodge. The guide will show you the most interesting places, will lead in t.ch. and night excursion.

Many tourists come to the Wakon reserve by taxi from Antananarivo - it's about 3 hours on the way. In this case, all the nuances of moving through the territory of the reserve should be decided on the spot with the administration of the park.
