Anegean Monastery

Anegean monastery is an amazing medieval building, which is considered one of the most important sights of Prague.

A bit of history

Anegean monastery in Prague was founded on the site of the hospital ranked by the saint Anechka Przemyslava and her brother Vaclav I. In honor of the founder and the first abbess the monastery got its name.

It was founded in 1231-1234. Throughout its history, the monastery has undergone many changes. Originally it was a Gothic building, but in view of the large number of restorations for almost 8 centuries, it acquired both features of the Baroque style and features of the Renaissance.

The last reconstruction of the Anegean monastery took place in 2002 after the flood, which damaged many historical buildings in Prague.

At the moment the monastery is considered one of the most important Gothic buildings of the Czech Republic .

What to see on the territory of the monastery?

Interesting excursions are conducted along the Anegean monastery. Tell the story of the building, as well as many facts from the biography of Annezza Przemyslova herself.

During the tour you will pass both to the older building of the Clarissa women's monastery, and to a newer one - the Minorite monastery.

The lapidarium exhibits a variety of items that have been found by archaeologists during research.

Also an obligatory stage of the excursion is visiting the monastery gardens, which are dotted with sculptures of modern Czech masters. Surprisingly, their work is very harmonious look among the older trees. On the example of this garden, you can appreciate how different times are woven together.

It should be noted that temporary expositions are also present on the territory of the Anegean monastery. Usually it is an exhibition of works of art, as here are located the halls of the National Gallery .

How to get to the monastery?

To get to the Anegean monastery, you need to take tram no. 6, 8, 15, 26, 41, 91, 04 or 96 and get off at the Dlouhá třída stop.
