Bacterial conjunctivitis

Despite the fact that the conjunctiva of the eye is wetted by a tear fluid that has antiseptic properties, it often undergoes bacterial damage, especially when the defenses of the body or autoimmune diseases decrease. In the treatment, started on time, the pathology passes quickly, during only 3-5 days.

What are the causes of viral or bacterial conjunctivitis?

This disease is very contagious and transmitted by close contact with the injured person. It causes streptococcal and staphylococcal microorganisms, as well as a hemophilic rod .

Less common bacterial conjunctivitis, provoked by gonorrhea and chlamydia infection. As a rule, this type of disease can be infected as a result of intimate relationships with the "zero patient".

Adenoviruses are the cause of the viral form of affection of the conjunctiva. It should be noted that this is the most common type of pathology, so before starting therapy it is important to determine the pathogen and determine the appropriateness of using antibiotics.

Symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis

Local signs:

In addition, the patient feels burning, itching, sometimes - the sensation of a foreign body or sand in the eyes. Rarely develops ulceration of the cornea, abscess, panophthalmitis.

Treatment of acute bacterial conjunctivitis

Therapy involves the use of systemic and local antibiotics (drops, ointments), as well as washing the conjunctiva with antiseptic solutions.

Standard treatment regimen:

  1. Moxifloxacin or similar fluoroquinolones in the form of drops with a concentration of up to 0.5% (3 times a day).
  2. Ciprofloxacin or Ceftriaxone systemically (one-time injection in the amount of 1 g of substance or internal administration for 5-10 days).
  3. Gentamicin or trombamycin ointment with a concentration of 0.3% (pawned about the eyelid about 4 times a day).

The presence of gonorrhea and chlamydial infection requires the simultaneous administration of broad-spectrum antibiotics, for example, Azithromycin or Erythromycin, in a course of 5-7 days.

If the described method of treatment is ineffective, it can be assumed that the disease is caused by adenoviruses or is allergic in nature.
