Blue Lagoon

If you like different SPA procedures and are interested in mud treatment , then we invite you to pay attention to the Blue Lagoon located next to the city of Grindavik in Iceland - a unique geothermal resort in the world.

The Reykjanes Peninsula, where the Blue Lagoon Resort is located, almost all consists of a porous lava, through which hot, and in some places seething, geothermal water seeps.

The history of the opening of this resort began in 1976, when Iceland built the world's first geothermal power plant. In the 90s, local residents near her discovered a lake with blue water, which has medicinal properties. Initially, it was forbidden to swim here, but in 1999 the local authorities allowed the construction of a spa resort with the necessary infrastructure, so the Blue Lagoon Clinic was opened, which treats skin diseases.

Today the Blue Lagoon Resort is one of the main attractions in Iceland. You can get there like this: by plane to the airports of Reykjavik (40 km) and Keflavik (22 km), and then by car or regular bus to get to the resort. Tour operators organize medical holidays all year round at the Blue Lagoon resort in Iceland.

Blue Lagoon: geothermal complex

Complex Blue Lagoon is located around a number of natural pools with medicinal water. Log into it for a fee:

Inside the payment is carried out with the help of a special electronic bracelet, visitors pay at the exit from the complex. The territory is equipped for comfortable rest and various procedures that are done right outside in the pool.

The lagoon, 200 m wide and 2 km long, has an average depth of about 1.5-2 m. The water temperature in the source is + 37-40 ° C. It is most comfortable in the water at a temperature of + 37 ° C. The water in the basin is 65% marine, saturated with salts (2.5%) and hydrogen (7.5). Geothermal sea water in the lagoon is updated every 40 hours. Regular sampling of samples for analysis showed that in this water with a unique composition, bacteria simply do not survive.

Due to the fact that the water is saturated with minerals such as quartz and silicon, as well as green and blue algae, it acquires its bright shade. The bottom of the reservoir is smooth, consists of white clay, but sometimes stones come across. You have to be careful, since in places where the source leaves the surface, the temperature reaches 90 ° C.

Bathing in geothermal water on the body acts like this:

Algae softens and nourishes the skin. Clay from the bottom contributes to the cleansing and healing of the skin.

The blue lagoon is better to visit in the morning, when there are few visitors, since after lunch there is a lot of people. One of the rules of bathing is the mandatory taking of a shower before and after a visit to the water, since it is so concentrated that it can get irritated without the final water procedures.

Blue Laguna: hotels

You can stop at the resort in the rooms of the clinic, located 5 minutes walk from the geothermal complex, or in the hotels of the nearest towns - Grindavik and Reykjavik.

Opened in 2005, the Blue Lagoon Clinic looks like a small hotel with a restaurant, a gym and a private pool with thermal water. The room rate includes a visit to the Blue Lagoon. The clinic itself specializes in the treatment of dermatological diseases using unique techniques and preparations based on mud, algae and water source.

Hotels in Grintavik are quite modern, of different levels of comfort and with a corresponding set of services. Eating here can be quite decent in several restaurants.

In addition to medical recreation, in the vicinity of the Blue Lagoon, you can stroll through the moss-covered scenic landscape of volcanic lava, where you can see rivers with boiling water, and in the evening enjoy the observation of the mysterious northern lights.
