Indications for analysis
A woman is recommended to take breast milk for analysis in many cases. The main ones are:
- mastitis in nursing young mothers ;
- the development of dysbiosis in infants who are breastfed.
When is the analysis done?
As a rule, special preparation of a woman before the analysis of breast milk for sterility, whose purpose is to exclude the presence of staphylococcus in milk, is not required. This study is conducted before antibiotic therapy or a week after.
How correctly to hand over milk on the analysis?
- Before expressing breast milk for analysis, a woman should treat the chest with soap, and the nipples and a small area around them - 70% with a solution of ethyl alcohol, with each gland being treated with a separate tampon.
- The first dose of 5-10 ml is not suitable for the study. For the analysis of breast milk take the next 5 ml, which is expressed directly into a sterile container. A woman is given 2 sterile containers, because the fence is taken from each gland separately.
- The collected breast milk can be stored for up to 24 hours before refrigeration.
- The results of this study a woman can receive in 3-6 working days, depending on the workload of the laboratory.
Normally, breast milk does not contain foreign microorganisms, that is, sterile. If there are antibodies in the breast milk that is submitted for analysis, doctors may have suspicions of an inflammatory process in the mother's body.
