Atresia of the cervical canal is such a violation in the anatomical structure of the uterus, which consists in its infection.

Because of what usually develops atresia?

The causes of atresia of the cervical canal can be divided into 2 groups: acquired and congenital. The latter are quite rare, and are caused by the presence of pathologies such as complete infection of the cervical canal, double cervix (developmental abnormality).

Most often, atresia is an acquired disease. So, quite often such a violation is observed after surgical operations on the reproductive organs. For example, after the recent curettage of the uterine cavity and its neck, on the site of the damaged endometrium there are spikes. Localization of them directly inside the cervical canal leads to the development of atresia.

How is atresia treated?

The only way to treat atresia of the cervical canal is surgery. It is conducted under general anesthesia, in a hospital. In this case, the conduct of such a procedure is permissible only in those situations when the duration of amenorrhea does not exceed 6 months. Otherwise, recanalization of the cervix is ​​appointed, i.e. the formation of a new channel, next to the old one.
