What is Chiribikete?
It is one of the largest and most beautiful of almost 60 national parks in Colombia . Geographically, it is located in the south of the country, in the center of the Amazon natural-territorial complex. Administratively one part falls into the department of Guavaire, and the second - in Kaketa.
Through the park there are many large and small tributaries of the river Kaketa, the largest of which are Jari, Apaporis and Mesay. The climatic conditions in the Chiribikete National Park are quite comfortable: the average annual temperature is +24 ° С, there are no sharp fluctuations. The annual rainfall is 4500 mm.
Park Chiribikete is relatively young: the date of its founding is September 21, 1989. In 4 years the reserve became a candidate for the UNESCO World Heritage List. Initially for the national park was taken 12 thousand square meters. km. In 2013, the government significantly increased its area, which today is 27,823.536 square meters. km. Many states financially supported this fact in order to preserve the poorly studied forests of the Amazon.
What is interesting about Chiribikete Park?
The main attraction of the largest national park in Colombia is the eponymous mountain chain, the difference in altitudes of which ranges from 200 to 1000 m above sea level. In the numerous caves of Chiribikete, an incredible number of rock carvings of primitive people, perfectly preserved to the present day, was found. Many images are about 20 thousand years old.
Among the most interesting representatives of the animal world living in the territory of the Chiribikete National Park, it is worth noting:

- 48 species of bats, among them Jamaican litonos and tailless long-nosed;

- 79 species of fish (catfish, perciform, characiform, scaty);
- Amazonian dolphin and white dolphin;
- 313 species of beautiful butterflies;
- 261 species of ants;
- 72 species of beetles;
- 43 species of mosquitoes;
- 7 species of dragonflies.
It is assumed that not all representatives of the fauna are seen in the park, since the relief here is complex, because of what the area is poorly known.
How to get to Chiribinka?
The closest city to the park is San Jose del Guavier. On the territory of Chiribiket, in consultation with the administration of the national park, tourist excursions are organized. For this, official registration of all participants of the itinerary and compulsory accompaniment of the guide is required. Single excursions in the park are prohibited.
