Corcovado

The Corcovado National Reserve is perhaps one of the most peaceful places in Costa Rica . This is an excellent place for a relaxing holiday away from civilization and in harmony with nature, the wealth of which is difficult to describe in words, it is better to see them at least once.

General information about the park

Corcovado National Park in Costa Rica was founded on October 31, 1975 to protect the unique landscape and ecosystems of tropical rain forests on the Osa Peninsula.

In these parts there is a moist subequatorial climate. The most preferable time to visit the reserve is a dry season, which lasts approximately from mid-December to mid-April.

What is interesting about the Corcovado nature reserve?

The Corcovado National Park today covers an area of about 42.5 hectares. The first thing I would like to note, speaking about this reserve, is the presence in it of at least eight different ecosystems, which in itself is a unique phenomenon. In Corcovado you can see mangrove swamps and uncharted tropical forests, sandy coast and amazing dwarf groves. The national park is home to many rare and endangered species of animals and birds, including scarlet macaws, Harpy eagles, giant anteaters, jaguars, minnows, Baird tapirs.

Corcovado in Costa Rica was awarded the National Geographic award in the nomination "the most biologically active place on earth". In this reserve grows more than 500 species of trees, including huge sizes of cotton trees (the height of some of them reaches 70 meters, and the diameter is about 3 meters). From the animal kingdom in the Corcovado National Park there are 400 species of birds, 100 species of amphibians and reptiles, 140 species of mammals and more than 10 thousand various insects.

The largest population of rare parrots - red macaws - is concentrated in this place. Also worth paying attention to the poisonous snake kaisak and a glass frog, jaguars, armadillos, ocelots, monkeys, sloths and other representatives of the local fauna. However, Corcovado is interesting not only for plant and animal life. There is a geological sight here - the Salsipuades cave. According to the legend, the famous seafarer Francis Drake left it in it some of his treasures. In addition, north of Corcovado there is the bay of Drake Bay, in which, in 1579, the seafarer made a stop during his round-the-world trip.

A tour of the Corcovado Park in Costa Rica is amazing and full of adventure. You will see the untouched nature of the rainforest, you can dive into the waterfalls and even swim and sunbathe on the deserted beaches. For the comfortable rest of tourists who come to Corcovado, all conditions are created here: one can spend the night in one of the campsites, rent a bicycle, kayak or ride a horse.
