Think about the expression "inspire confidence". Most often, we do not apply it to those who convince us that we can trust them. Unlike beliefs that require certain information and logical arguments, suggestion is not drawn to the logic of man, but to his feelings and, to some extent, intuition. Needless to say, women are more inclined to suggestion than men.
The power of suggestion makes us automatically believe the person who once instilled confidence in us. Remember: those teachers who used authority, easily conveyed their ideas to you. People who know the art of persuasion and psychological suggestion, as a rule, cause an involuntary imitation in us. Suggestion can change the train of thought or inclines to a certain behavior.
Types of suggestion
Suggestion can be:
- intentional and unintentional. In the first case, a person who wants to inspire you with a certain idea, consciously resorts to one of the ways of suggestion (including conviction). An unintentional suggestion is something we come across very often. We are given the excitement of other people, and someone's phrase "nothing will come of it" is capable of getting in the way. A common example: a prophetic "get sick", told by a mother to a child who has gotten wet feet. Very often the disease is the result of suggestion;
- direct and indirect. Direct suggestion, as a rule, is based on commands or orders. Indirect influences the motives of behavior;
- positive and negative. Psychological suggestion can be directed both at the development of positive (courage, diligence, self-confidence) and negative (greed, cowardice, uncertainty) qualities and deeds.
Knowing that, one way or another, we are subjected to suggestions every day, it is useful sometimes to clear our thoughts and listen to our own feelings in order to work out the right attitudes.
