Sewing a classic square or rectangular cushion for a sofa consists of two parts: this is the manufacture of the pillow itself, and then the cover or pillow cases to it. With the first part, everything is simple:

• we make a pattern and on it we cut out the fabric, which can be absolutely anything - from silk to flax;
• we sew the resulting details from three sides;
• We turn out the fabric and fill the pillow with filler. To do this, it is useful sintepon, holofayber, foam rubber or any other synthetic filler that will keep the shape well. Use fluff for sofa cushions is not recommended, because such a product will be too soft;
• we finish work, sewing a ready pillow with a secret seam.

However, the second stage often causes beginners to sew a lot of questions. The following master-class with visual instructions will help you to sew pretty covers on the cushions for the sofa yourself.

1. Dimensions and shapes of sofa cushions can vary depending on your preferences. To sew a cover to a rectangular cushion, cut out two details measuring 50x30 cm. It is better, if they are made of different fabrics: the patterned will become a smart front side of the pillow, and the part of the burlap will be purl. In addition, try to choose a durable, wear-resistant and non-woven fabric for the boot so that you do not have to wash it every week.
2. Fold both parts together so that their faces touch each other.
3. Kick their pins around the perimeter, except for the center of one of the sides, as it is clearly shown in the photo.
4. Then we lay the machine stitch first on one side of the fabric. Thread also choose strong, according to the fabric. In some cases, it makes sense to make a double or even triple line.
5. After reaching the corner, turn the product by 90 ° and sew the next side of the cover in the same way.
6. As you can see, the middle part of the fabric is not stitched.
7. Smooth out all the seams with a hot iron, properly leveling the fabric of the future pillow.
8. Then gently cut all four corners of the cushion diagonally, not reaching 2-3 mm before the stitching.
9. Turn the product out by straightening the corners from the wrong side.
10. If the fabric is sufficiently dense, you can do the same manipulations on the front side, using a needle, gently pulling the fabric. Thus, your rectangular pillow has acquired sharp corners.
11. This is how our future cover looks like at this stage.
12. Now you need to process the edges of its central part.
13. Wrap them 1-1.5 cm inside and iron first one edge.
14. So do the second one.
15. Our cover, unlike the pillowcase, will be completely closed. Therefore, grind off the not sewn part with the help of tail pins.
16. And, finally, carefully sew the hole manually, using a classic hidden seam. Now if necessary, wash the cover or replace the pillow, you can gently break the seam, and then sew again.
17. As you can see, there's nothing complicated in making a pillow on the sofa.

Sofa cushions can be decorated with braid, buttons or creative applique. The presence of covers is convenient in that you can periodically change their decor as well as the covers themselves, shifting the accents in the interior.
