Dominance

Dominance is a multi-valued concept, which primarily means the ability to occupy a dominant position. This concept is also in biology, and in psychology, and in many other branches of science.

Dominance in Psychology by Kettel

Dominance is a character trait that manifests itself in the desire and ability to constantly occupy an important, dominant position in any group, and at the same time influence other people, dictate their will.

In the psychological test of Kettel dominance is characterized by such additional properties as independence, perseverance, assertiveness, independence, stubbornness, self-will, and in some cases aggressiveness, conflictness, craving for admiration, refusal to recognize power, authoritarian behavior, rebellion. It is in all these properties and their totality that the inclination to dominance lies.

The dominant personality is easy to learn - it's talented leaders, entrepreneurs, rulers, people with outstanding organizational skills. It can not be said that any dominant person is cruel or tries to suppress someone else's will - these traits are extreme.

Dominance of the hemisphere and mental functions

In addition to the dominance of character, psychology also considers the dominance of the hemispheres. It's no secret that each of the cerebral hemispheres has its own specific functions, and it is believed that each person dominates one over the other, thereby enhancing a certain type of thinking and drowning out the second. Let us consider in more detail their mental functions:

Left hemisphere:

  1. Abstract thinking.
  2. Obtaining the information space on the right.
  3. Speech. Logical and analytical functions, mediated by the word.
  4. Analytical perception, mathematical calculations.
  5. Formation of the most complex motor acts.
  6. Abstract, generalized, invariant recognition.
  7. Identification of incentive identity by name.
  8. Management of the organs of the right side of the trunk.
  9. Consistent perception.
  10. Evaluation of time relationships.
  11. Establishment of similarity.

There is a scientific opinion that people with the dominant left hemisphere are most strongly committed to the theory, have developed speech, are active, purposeful, can predict the results of actions and events.

Right Hemisphere

  1. Concrete thinking.
  2. Recognition of emotional coloring, features of speech.
  3. General perception. Specific visual perception.
  4. Management of organs of the left half of the trunk.
  5. Establishment of physical identity of stimuli.
  6. Correct evaluation of the nature of nonverbal sounds.
  7. Obtaining the space information on the left.
  8. Estimation of spatial relations.
  9. Holistic perception (gestalt).
  10. Concrete recognition.
  11. Establishment of differences.
  12. Ear for music.

A person who is dominated by the right hemisphere will rather prefer some specific activities, usually they are sluggish, calm, unsociable, but very sensitive to the environment, susceptible to people and events.

People who have the same right and left hemisphere, usually to some extent combine in their type of thinking features that are inherent in both, and the other hemisphere.

In addition, it is known that the dominance of the hemispheres can not be manifested constantly, but only in some specific cases. Usually the hemisphere interacts in sequence: for example, when processing information, the right hemisphere is turned on first, and then the analysis moves to the left, in which the final realization of the received data takes place.
