Ficus - varieties

Precisely to say, how many things there are kinds of ficuses is very difficult, as their number exceeds a thousand, among which there are evergreen trees, shrubs, and ampel plants. But as an indoor flower, only about 20 varieties of ficuses are grown.

Most often, the name of a species of ficus is not defined, so in this article we will consider the characteristic features of their structure.

  1. Rubber - the most common kind of indoor ficus. It is a well branching shrub with beautiful dense pointed oval leaves. There are several varieties of this ficus, differing in the color of the leaves: Black Prince, tricolor, variegata.
  2. Rusty leafy (Australian) - shrub with burgundy, yellow or green leaves, on the outside having a light fluff. Usually, at the bottom of the stem grow air roots.
  3. Rooting is a ficus of ampel shape, in which small leaves are alternately arranged on thin stems.
  4. Mountain - a short shrub whose leaves can be of various shapes.
  5. Benjamin - reaching a 2m sprawling bush with ovoid, stiff, mottled and monotonously colored leaves with a pointed end. For stability, it is recommended that it is better to drop several specimens at once into the same pot.
  6. Lyrate - not too branchy shrubs of large size, with large velvety bright green leaves with light veins resembling a violin.
  7. Bengal-banyan is a tree with several trunks formed as a result of growth on the lateral shoots of air roots. The leaves of this ficus are usually 15 cm long, dark green in color and very dense. This view is great for making bonsai out of it.
  8. Dwarfish (pumila) is an ample ficus with small (2-5 cm) thin green leaves in the form of a heart, which are located on thin wire stems.
  9. A tiny one is a strongly branched bush with branches resembling creepers. In the process of ficus development, the leaves change their shape from asymmetrical to the right oval.
  10. Ivy - shrub, which is very small leaves (5 mm - 1 cm) on short cuttings (3 mm).
  11. Benedicta - very similar to a weeping tree (willow tree), with long, narrow, pointed leaves densely covering the stems of the plant.
  12. Deltoid or ficus-omega is an evergreen little tree with bright green oval leaves. A feature of this ficus is the appearance of fruits that mature during the year from green to yellow.
  13. Small-fruited Moklame is a compact tall bush with very dense, plastic-like, bright green round leaves.
  14. Triangular is a charming tree with matt green leaves of triangular shape, located on almost red branches hanging down.
  15. Carica (fig) - a shrub with autumn-falling rough dark green leafy leaves. It is used not only for decorative decoration, but also for obtaining useful fruits. So there are varieties of Ficus Carica, to obtain fruits that do not require pollination: Dalmatika, Shuisky Kadata, Black San Pedro and Crimean, etc. It is also called a fig tree.
  16. Variegated - a low slowly growing shrub with dense, skinlike, small dark green leaves with brown specks. On one ficus there can be leaves of the different form. It grows inedible fruits, resembling olives.
  17. Sacred or religious - a tree-shaped ficus with wide, heart-like leaves with a sharp tip, located on the handle, the length of which exceeds the length of the leaf itself in half. A feature of this ficus is the appearance of drops on its sheets when the atmospheric pressure changes. This phenomenon is called the weeping of the sacred tree.
