Grandmother's Valley

On the banks of the small river Upa in the Czech Republic is a small town Ceska-Skalice. One of its quarters, called Ratiborzyce, is located in the picturesque valley of the river. However, these places are famous not only for their natural beauties, but also for the fact that Babushkina Valley is located here, which was described in her novel by "Grandmother" by the well-known Czech writer Bozena Nemtsova.

What is the interest of Grandmother Valley?

In summer, as well as during the Christmas party in Babushkina Valley, the guests are greeted by the revived characters of the novel Nemtsova, whose roles are played by local artists. They will lead tourists to the most famous sights of the Grandmother's village:

  1. Ratibozice Castle. In ancient times it belonged to the notable Duchess of Zagansk. She was visited by many eminent noblemen of the time, for example, Prince Metternich and even the Russian Emperor Alexander. The castle building is built in classical style. You can visit it today.
  2. Rudrov water mill. There is now a museum in which you can see a lot of items made of wood by local craftsmen. Visitors are shown how the mill works, perfectly preserved to our days.
  3. Victorchina alloy. This is a notorious place from the novel "Grandmother". Here the mad heroine Victorka threw the child into the river Upa, and then came ashore and sang lullabies.
  4. Sculptural composition "Grandmother with grandsons". It was established in the valley in 1922.
  5. Museum of Bozena Nemtsova. It is also located in Ratiborzyce and is located in the log cabin "Staré belidlo" (old white). Here you can see Grandma's room with a wooden table on carved legs, spinning wheel and other examples of simple Czech life.

Today the novel "Grandmother" Czech schoolchildren are studying in literature lessons. Every year in Ratiborzyce, many fans of literary creativity Bozena Nemtsova and tourists come. There is a special literary nature trail with a length of 6 km, along which pedestrian and bicycle excursions are organized. Babushkina valley is declared an object of cultural heritage of the Czech Republic , and the local nature is protected by law .

How to get to Grandma's Valley?

Getting to this nature reserve is the easiest way by car. On the road from the Czech capital Prague to the Grandmother's Valley, you will spend about 2 hours. The fastest route passes through the D11, but the path lies through toll roads.
