The Yenish Museum

The Museum of Fine Arts and Graphics Yenish is located in the western Swiss city of Vevey . A large number of works of art are presented to the visitors' court. Here you can find both works of modern and working in the distant past of European painters, although the main emphasis is on the works of the XIX and XX centuries. In addition to the permanent exhibition, various temporary exhibitions are held every year under the museum, which must be at least three a year.

A bit of history

The museum was named after Fanny Yenish, the widow of a Hamburg official. Donating a round sum (200 thousand francs), she sponsored the creation of an encyclopedic museum, where science and art would go side by side. Construction of the art museum was at the end of the XIX century, and on March 10, 1897 the museum was opened for visitors. The collection of the museum is supplemented every year with interesting works of European artists. At the end of their days, local collectors are also not greedy, and often give the museum the accumulated values of art. Thus, even regular visitors to the museum always have what to see and study.

What to see in the Yenish Museum?

The museum complex in Switzerland hosted the Museum of Arts (Musée des Beaux-Arts) and the Cantonal Prints Museum (Cabinet Cantonal des Estampes). The content of the first consists of all kinds of works of painters, sculptures, engravings, drawings and prints (works of graphic art). There is also a large collection of the Oscar Kokoszki Foundation, a famous Austrian expressionist. The artist lived a rather long life of 93 years, the last 26 of which he spent in Villeneuve near the modern Vevey. He tried to devote most of his time to art, so the volume of the collection of his works is about 800 worthy works.

The Cantonal Print Museum boasts Europe's largest collection of works by Rembrandt, which has become a real legend in painting. The Dutch artist, draftsman and engraver wrote pictures in different genres, but always focused on the experiences and feelings of his characters. Rembrandt's works can reveal the veil of the inner world, fill the life with a new meaning and tell about the most important, without uttering a word. His lithographs are attributed to the golden age of Dutch painting, for the art of depicting human emotions will never lose relevance. Of great importance to the museum are the collections of works by Albrecht Durer, Jean-Baptiste Corot and Le Corbusier.
