Herpes on the labia

It is generally believed that 90% of people wear a herpes simplex virus in the body. Most often, the herpes virus affects the mucous lips and nose, as well as the skin around it, but sometimes with a gynecological examination the doctor discovers the patient's characteristic herpetic eruptions. There are 8 types of herpes simplex virus, but the following types of herpes simplex virus - HSV 1 and 2 types, as well as the herpes zoster virus, which is capable of affecting all layers of the skin and nerves, are pathogenic. Next we will consider why genital herpes appears on the large and small labia, the characteristic symptoms and characteristics of the treatment.

Herpes on the labia - causes

The cause of infection with the herpes simplex virus is the sexual way of transmission (with vaginal, oral and anal contact) and household (with the help of personal hygiene items). Even if the sexual partner who is the carrier of the herpes simplex virus, there are no external manifestations, then the probability of infection is 50%. Once in the body of a woman, the virus may not appear immediately, but only under certain circumstances. So, the factors that contribute to the genital herpes on the labia are the following:

Herpes labia in pregnancy

I want to pay special attention to herpes infection of pregnant women. With intrauterine infection with the herpes virus of the fetus, severe damage to the nervous system, skin and body of vision, as well as fetal death, is possible. The probability of intrauterine infection is quite rare (in 5% of cases). In the presence of herpes on the labia, the perineal mucosa and the vagina, perinatal infection is possible (during childbirth, when the fetus passes through the affected birth canal). Examination of pregnant women for the herpes virus is mandatory, it is included in the association of so-called TORCH-infections. Treatment of the herpes simplex virus during pregnancy is carried out with extreme caution only on the advice of a doctor.

Symptoms of herpes on the labia

The first clinical manifestation of herpes are characteristic rashes in the form of grouped small vials filled with a cloudy liquid. Eruptions can be located on the labia, in the anus, on the inner thighs. These rashes are located on the swollen and reddened surface (skin or mucous) and are accompanied by severe burning and itching. Regional lymph nodes may be enlarged. The body temperature can rise, disturb the weakness and pain in the muscles.

How to treat herpes labia?

The drugs of the first line are specific antiviral antiherpetic drugs (Acyclovir, Zovirax, Valtrex). They are prescribed in combination with immunomodulators (Timalin, Timogen) and vitamins. The duration of antiviral therapy is determined by the doctor.

If there are eruptions on the labia, a local treatment is prescribed. To reduce local inflammation, itching and burning, prescribe zinc paste, ointment with hydrocortisone.

Diagnosis of herpetic infection is not difficult, but treatment does not guarantee 100% of getting rid of the virus, but only reduces the frequency of clinical manifestations.
