Before you sew the curtains to the windows in the living room , determine the type of fabric. In our case it is a transparent tulle with embroidery. To get started, we need:

How to sew curtains with your own hands?

  1. First of all, using the tape measure the length of the cornice. The curtain model chosen by us is distinguished by a beautiful and frequent drapery. Therefore, for eaves 3 m long, you need to take 2 such lengths, i.e. 6 m of tulle.
  2. Then measure with tape measure the height from the cornice to the floor. We got 2.4 m.
  3. When the sizes were determined, we cut off the edges of the tulle with scissors. The width of the cut is about 8-10 mm. Fig. 1
  4. Cut off the edge bend by 2 cm and spend a smooth seam. We make sure that the line was flat, and both layers of fabric are stretched enough, otherwise the edge of the curtain will turn out to be "wavy".
  5. For convenience, we forgive our tulle on the carpet, the edge to the edge. So it will be much easier to measure the length of the curtain. Roulette, in three points from the bottom of the tulle measure 2.4 m, leaving marks in pencil.
  6. Since we have 50 cm extra, we measure them from the top of the tulle. Exactly bend the tulle along the marked points.
  7. We iron the resulting crease, from point to point.
  8. Since there is a large window in our living room, we need to ensure unhindered access to it. To do this, measure the distance from the edge of the cornice to the opening side of the window, double this distance. We measure the tape measure from the edge of the tulle 3 m and from this point we cut the fabric.
  9. Both edges, as before, are machined using a single seam on each bend.
  10. Scissors cut the bent edges of both parts of the tulle, at a distance of 3.5 cm from the ironed line - this is our allowance for the hem.
  11. Now comes the finishing stage of our lesson, how to sew curtains with your own hands - filing curtain tape. The allowances on both parts of the tulle bend under the curtain tape, and sew one line along the top edge.
  12. Approaching the edge, cut the tape 2 cm longer than the length of the tulle. Turn it on continue to scribble to the end.
  13. Since the tape is wide (for a shallow fold), it must be sealed in three places. For this, on the edge, make 2 more pencil marks and get down to work. In the process of sewing, we follow that the fabric is stretched and the line "goes" to the pulling cord.
  14. Now in our master class how to sew a curtain, the most interesting and final moment has come - a tightening of a tape. We pull the tulle up to the width of the cornice and fasten the hooks on the tape in steps of 10-13 cm.
  15. The product is ready and we successfully attach it to the cornice.
