Kolmården Zoo


In Scandinavia there are several large zoos in the traditional sense of the word. And 140 km from Stockholm is the largest zoo in Sweden - Kolmorden, where in the natural environment, there are about 1000 species of animals collected from around the world. Here, in a vast forest area, you can not only meet with wild animals, but also visit numerous attractions. In addition, the Kolmården zoo is famous for its safari excursions on a cable car. A unique nature protection zone, where animals are not tortured in captivity in close cages, are visited by about half a million tourists annually.

Entertainment in the zoo

Depending on recreational activities, species of animals and their habitats, the entire territory of the Kolmården zoo is divided into several thematic zones:

  1. The world of tigers (Tiger World) is an area in which charming furry predators can be seen incredibly close. The pride of this kingdom is the Amur tiger.
  2. The world of the sea (Marine World) is a park area with underwater inhabitants. Here visitors can watch the fascinating show of dolphins "Life", representations of seals, get acquainted with the rare penguins of Humboldt and ride the Dolphin Express roller coaster.
  3. Aparium - the most noisy and fun corner of the park, as it is home to charming and intelligent monkeys, gorillas and chimpanzees. The main representative of this zone is a funny gorilla cub named Enzu.
  4. Safari Park is the territory of the Kolmården zoo, dedicated to the diversity of wild animals. Here, hovering over the land on a hanging road, you can see powerful lions, clumsy bears, fearful ostriches, huge giraffes, wolves and other dwellers.
  5. Tricarium is an impressive terrarium, inhabited by numerous reptiles and various predatory representatives of the sea depths: sharks, snakes, piranhas, alligators.
  6. The world of birds is the separation of a park with a huge number of birds. Here you can visit the spectacular show "Winged Predators", the participants of which are birds performing the most complicated acrobatic elements in the air.
  7. "Colosseum" (Kolosseum) - the park area, where visitors are greeted by the meeting with the good-natured and cute elephants of Colmården. Especially admires the real charmer - elephant Namsai.
  8. Children's Kolmorden or "Peace Bamsa" is the territory of a fairy teddy bear, on which there are fantastic attractions, playgrounds, various slides, swimming pools, shops and restaurants.

Helpful information

Due to the fact that in the Swedish zoo Kolmorden mostly thermophilic animals predominate, it is only open during the high season: from the end of April to the middle of November. The cost of one day of visiting for an adult is $ 46, for children from 3 to 12 years - $ 35, a child under 3 years old can be held free of charge. For a two-day ticket, the price increases by $ 100. It should be noted that there are no discount programs and family subscribers here.

How to get to the zoo?

To get to Colmonden is best on your own or rented car . From Stockholm to the road takes about 90 minutes. If you go by train (InterCity), leave at Kolmården Station. From here to the park the bus runs daily, on the way about 10 min.
