Rosemary - cultivation

Aromatic rosemary has long been known to mankind due to its useful properties and applications in various fields. The plant is an evergreen shrub, belonging to a family of labial flowers, with light leaves, like pine needles. During flowering, it is covered with blue, white or pink-purple inflorescences. The birthplace of rosemary is considered southern Mediterranean countries, because, probably, in our climate it is little grown. And if you intend to decorate your lawn or window sill with this beautiful shrub that will not only please the eye, it will also bring tangible benefits to the body, believe me, it's not so difficult. Just listen to the recommendations on how to grow rosemary correctly.

Rosemary: planting and care

Planting rosemary can be seeds and cuttings. If you opted for this type of planting of rosemary, like growing a house from seed, keep in mind that it should be done in late winter - early spring. Sowing is done in moist, fertile, loose soil. You can prepare a suitable substrate - a mixture of peat, sand, humus and turf in a ratio of 1: 1: 1: 2. After sowing the seeds, the container is covered with a film or glass and kept for 3 weeks at a temperature regime of 5-7 ° C. After that, the container with the seeds should be transferred to a warmer room, where after a month and shoots will appear. In order for you to grow and take rosemary, care and cultivation assumes a temperature of 10-12 ° C, uninvested watering and airing the room. After that, the germinated plants must be dived into separate pots.

As to how to grow rosemary from cuttings, then this method is considered more simple. In late autumn, the young shoot should be cut off from the adult bush at least 5 cm long. After clearing it from the lower leaves, the stalk should be placed in the rooting agent - a special solution to stimulate growth. After this, the cuttings are placed in prepared soil or wet sand and placed in a warm place. Do not forget to water the rosemary, but do not overdo it. After 2-3 weeks, when the cuttings take root, they should be transplanted into pots or into open ground.

Rosemary: cultivation and care

In the summer, rosemary should be kept on a well-lit balcony or window sill. If you have a household plot, a pot of rosemary can be taken to a place where the sun's rays penetrate well. With the arrival of frosts, the container with the plant should be taken to a cool room (for example, a cellar or a cellar) where the temperature will not drop below 10-12 ° C. However, do not forget about additional lighting for 6-8 hours a day.

If we talk about how to water rosemary, then in autumn, winter and spring watering should be frequent, but moderate. In the summer heat, the volume of water should be increased. But make sure that the water does not stagnate, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow.

Top dressing of rosemary should be carried out in the active period of growth - from March to September. Use complex fertilizers twice in month.

The plant needs a transplant in early spring every two years in a larger pot.

If your climatic conditions suggest no frost, then rosemary cultivation in the garden is possible year-round. It will require compliance with the basic requirements for care - sunlight, frequent moderate watering, loosening the soil, clearing the land of weeds. And if you firmly intend to cultivate rosemary in the country at a cold winter, plant a frost-resistant plant variety. However, in this case, with the onset of cold weather, you still have to prepare a special shelter.
