Rickets in children - symptoms

Such a disease as rickets, is a violation of the mineral metabolism, which directly affects the bone apparatus. It is observed mainly in young children, whose age ranges from 2 months to 1 year. Let's consider the violation in more detail, and tell about the main symptoms of rickets in children under one year.

How does this disease manifest in babies?

Most often, the first signs of rickets are observed in children even before the year, but not all mothers know them, and therefore do not even assume that it is he.

So, among the first symptoms of this disorder can be called deterioration of sleep in the baby. Sleep becomes anxious, restless, the child often shudders in a dream, there is tearfulness. In this case, sweating is observed, which appears mainly during sleep or feeding. A special feature is the fact that the sweat itself becomes acidic and irritates the skin. That is why many mothers notice that their baby starts rubbing his head on the pillow.

When examining the little doctor, softening of the skull bones is noted. In this case, the fontanel itself overgrows much later, especially large. If at this stage the changes are not noticed and the appropriate measures are not taken, the symptoms begin to progress, marked bone changes are noted.

As a rule, the period of the height of the disease falls at the end of the first half of the life of the baby. So, the softness of the edges of the large fontanel is joined by softening and other skull bones - the nape becomes flat, because of which the asymmetry of the head develops.

Also, as a result of the strong growth of bone tissue, which is not calcified in rickets, as is usually the case in normal, the frontal and parietal tubers begin to protrude significantly, resulting in the skull acquiring a rather peculiar shape.

On the ribs there are seals, which in medicine are called "rachitic rosary", and "wrist bracelets" are formed on the wrists. All the above symptoms of rickets are observed in infants.

What are the external signs of rickets in one-year-old children?

Already after half a year, when the load on the bone apparatus increases, the curvature of the spine occurs, the chest is pressed inward or vice versa - it swells. The pelvis acquires a flat shape and itself becomes very narrow. After the baby starts walking alone, the legs are curved, which acquire a wheel-shaped shape. This phenomenon leads to the development of flat feet in toddlers.

It should be noted that along with changes in the bone apparatus, there is also a decrease in muscle tone. As a result of the hypotension of the anterior abdominal muscles, a disturbance develops, such as a "frog" abdomen. In the joints there is increased mobility. All these changes directly affect the process of development of motor skills, such kids later start turning over on their stomachs, sitting, crawling.

Also, among the signs of rickets in children after a year, it is necessary to note the delay in teething. Often, these babies are noted violations in the internal organs: the lungs, the heart, the gastrointestinal tract. Due to the fact that babies with rickets, as a rule, there is a decrease in the body's defenses, they often get respiratory diseases. As a rule, these signs of rickets are observed in children older than a year.

Thus, it must be said that when the first signs of rickets appear in children, they need to be shown to the doctor, otherwise after a year the disease will progress and lead to unrecoverable changes in the bone apparatus.
