Kornegel is a local medicinal product in the form of a gel, which is used in ophthalmology. It is appointed in the following cases:
- erosive damage to the cornea of the eye;
- keratitis ;
- keratoconjunctivitis;
- eye burns (thermal, chemical);
- dystrophic pathology of the cornea;
- damage to the cornea due to the use of contact lenses (as a treatment and prevention);
- corneal infections of bacterial, viral or fungal nature (as part of complex therapy).
Composition of the drug Kornegel
The main component of Cornegel is dexpanthenol (5%). This substance exhibits the same biological activity as pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), but it has a better absorbency. It compensates for the increased need for the cornea of the eye in pantothenic acid, which occurs with various injuries. The substance has a regenerating and protective effect, contributes to the normalization of metabolic processes and the removal of inflammatory phenomena.
Auxiliary components of the drug are:
- cetrimide;
- carbomer;
- disodium edetate;
- sodium hydroxide;
- prepared water.
How to replace Cornegel?
To date, the only analogue of Kornegel on the active substance are eye drops Sikaprotect. This drug also contains dexpanthenol, but at a lower concentration - 3%. In addition, in the composition of Sycaproject there are such substances:
- benzalkonium chloride;
- dipotassium hydrogen phosphate;
- potassium dihydrogen phosphate;
- purified water.
As a rule, these drops are prescribed for dryness of the cornea and conjunctiva associated with various diseases or mechanical causes.
Other medicinal preparations having a similar therapeutic effect to Kornegel, but differing in composition, are:
- drops Adegelon (active substance - glycoprotein);
- ointment Betamecil (active ingredient - betamecil);
gel Solcoseryl (active substance - deproteinized dialysate from calves' blood); - drops Taufon (active substance - taurine)
Solcoseryl or Korneregel - which is better?
The preparation Solkoseril has practically the same indications as Cornegel. However, the pharmacological action is achieved due to another active substance that promotes nutrition and restoration of the eye tissues. Both drugs are considered highly effective, well tolerated. However, it is not recommended to replace any of the medicines with an analogue drug, without the permission of the doctor.
