Introduction to Kubba al-Baadian

To begin with, in the guidebooks you can also find, apart from the official name of Kubba al-Baadiiyin, Kubba Almoravid or al-Kubba al-Murabiti. Do not worry, these are all the names of the same remarkable building, by the way, the oldest in the imperial city of Morocco , Marrakesh . Archaeologists and historians believe that Kubba is the only specimen that survived in this city, related to the architecture of the Almoravids. Once upon a time, in the XII century, Kubba was part of the palace of Ali ibn Yusuf, but it has not survived to our times. The sanctuary, although it has the status of a religious object, is not used for its intended purpose. It is rather a free museum, the most valuable archeological exhibit that has survived to this day.

What to see?

The very construction of the Kubba is a rectangular structure with a swimming pool, where ablutions were previously performed. Here there is a hidden stone cistern and a drinking fountain. The structure of the sanctuary is two-tiered, the whole building is made of brick and stone, the entrance and windows have an arched structure. The second tier is decorated with denticles, and the dome, decorated in crossed arches and patterns, is also visible, in terms of a star-like one.

The interior of the building is peculiar in that the dome has a double shell, although this feature is considered popular in the eastern and Arab countries. It turns out that the usual arched dome is closed like a beautiful flower, it all goes well with the vegetable ornament on the walls. The whole ornamental carving of the sanctuary basically represents plant motifs: palm leaves, cones, rosettes, etc. During the excavations, they also found bits of colored stained glass, but they, alas, were not preserved.

How to get there?

To begin with, in Morocco, almost any resident will tell you at least the direction towards the desired sights, such are the customs . Focus on the map of Marrakech : you need a street or a bazaar with a common name Barudiyin, the Kubba building is located very close to Ryu Asbest Street. But the most convenient option for any tourist will be a taxi. The most pleasant thing is that unlike other sanctuaries of Morocco, al-Baadi'iyin is allowed to Kubbu not only by Muslims, but by all who wish.
