The Museum of Ancient Folk Architecture Skogar village was opened in 1949. At that time, it had several ancient buildings, including a school and farms. The safety of the construction is due to the local resident Thomasson, whose life was concerned with the proper condition of the buildings for several decades. In his work he was guided by old notes on demography and mythology. In 1997, Tomasson received the title of Honorary Doctor of the University of Iceland. By 2005, 13 houses had been restored.
