Ovarian apoplexy

Apoplexy of the ovary is a rupture of its tissues. It is accompanied by a hemorrhage into the abdominal cavity. The main difficulty of apoplexy is that its symptoms are very often confused with similar diseases and conditions. Despite modern diagnostic methods, the final diagnosis is in most cases made during surgery.

Causes of ovarian apoplexy

Ovarian apoplexy is characteristic of the second half of the menstrual cycle and, as a rule, in women aged 20 to 36 years. In view of the fact that the artery of the right ovary is connected with the aorta and is better supplied with blood, it is affected more often than the left one.

The egg that emerged from the ovary, is replaced by the yellow body, which provides the preparation of the female organism for fertilization. The tissues of the yellow body under certain conditions can burst. To such conditions carry:

Also, experts note cases when apoplexy of the ovary occurred in a state of rest or in a dream. The cause of this was depletion of the walls of the tissues of the yellow body.

Signs of apoplexy of the ovary

The main symptoms of apoplexy of the ovary include acute pain in the lower abdomen from the side of the rupture and hemorrhage into the abdominal cavity. The pain in the disease is intense, it can not abate for several hours. If there is a hemorrhage characteristic of moderate or severe apoplexy, brown discharge can be observed.

With great blood loss, there is nausea, dizziness, general weakness. Vomiting may occur or fainting may occur. The pulse of a woman in this state is getting more frequent.

Treatment of ovarian apoplexy

If the above symptoms occur, the woman should take a recumbent position and immediately call an ambulance. In the hospital, it should also be delivered in a reclining position.

Further specialists conduct additional studies to determine the diagnosis.

Emergency care for apoplexy of the ovary is to carry out the operation. Depending on the severity of the patient's condition, the ovary is resected or completely removed.

At the discretion of a specialist, diagnosed apoplexy can be treated conservatively, without surgical intervention. This method is only indicated for mild disease and minor hemorrhage.

This type of treatment involves applying cold to the abdomen, taking anti-inflammatory drugs that are prescribed by the doctor. Treatment is carried out under the strict supervision of a specialist, and the patient must be in a state of complete rest.

Women who are still going to give birth to children should not resort to conservative treatment, since even small blood clots left in the peritoneum can lead to a commissure process. The consequences of this type of treatment for ovarian apoplexy can be relapsed.

Postoperative period

After the operation, with apoplexy of the ovary, rehabilitation measures are taken to prevent the adhesion process and restoration of the hormonal background. Thus, anti-inflammatory drugs, physiotherapeutic procedures and hormonal contraceptive use are prescribed. The minimum period for admission of the latter is 1 month. If a woman is still planning a pregnancy, the duration is increased to 6 months.

Sex after treatment of ovarian apoplexy is possible after a month and after examination by a specialist.

Prevention

Since ovarian apoplexy may recur in the future, prevention is the elimination of the cause that caused it. Regular examinations are also mandatory for the gynecologist.
